Geography

 

We cover 3 main topic in Geography during Year 5. These are:

 

Passport to The World:

During this unit of work, the children will be exploring an atlas, the globe and many maps of the UK, Europe and The World! They will be learning about towns, cities, counties, countries, continents and gaining knowledge on all the areas in-between. 

 

Land Use:

During this unit of work, the children will discover how land can serve many different purposes and how it can change. They will learn about land use in terms of residential, commercial, institutional, agricultural, transportation, parks and green space.

 

Climate Change:

During this unit of work, the children will explore what the term 'climate' means and the effects of climate change on life today and our planet. They will learn about the 'big questions', such as rising sea levels, weather changes, greenhouse gases, recycling and what we can do to live sustainable lives. The children will also gain knowledge on activists such as Greta Thunberg and Finlay Pringle.

Facts about The World

This film can help to develop pupils' geographical understanding which can be built upon as they move through school. It explores the continents, the oceans etc.
