Maths

To warm up we would like you to visit TT Rockstars to practise your times tables.

This week in Maths we will be continuing exploring time. Today we will be looking at 5 minute intervals.

There are 60 minutes in 1 hour.

The little hand on the clock measures the hours. The big hand on the clock measures the minutes.

Take a look at the clock below.

There are numbers 1 to 12. These numbers measure the hours.

If you look closely there are some smaller numbers on the clock. These numbers go from 1 to 60 and show the minutes.

Look what the numbers are counting up in around the clock. We can also view it as a straight number line.

Notice that the numbers count up in 5s. Each number around the clock represents 5 minutes that have passed.

The picture below explains it further.

As the big minute hand moves round the clock we say minutes past or minutes to. Below are some clocks to have a go at telling the time. Don't forget to look carefully at the minute and hour hands. Use the picture above to help.
