For this week’s maths, you are going to focus on mean. The mean is the average. You can find the mean by calculating the sum of all numbers and then dividing by the number of numbers. For example:


Here are Jim’s spelling scores for the last 4 weeks:   5,  9,  6,  8

We start by adding the numbers together: 5 + 9 + 6 + 8 = 28

Then we take that total (28) and divide it by the number of numbers we added together (4).

The mean is 7 because 28 ÷ 4 = 7
