Accelerated Reader
We use Accelerated Reader for children in Years 3–6. The aim is to improve children’s reading by supporting them to choose books that match their academic ability and by checking their understanding of what they have read.
There is a colour-coding system in our school library to help children select appropriate books. Children are welcome to borrow books from other colours. However, most of the books they take should be from their assigned colour band.
Once children have read a book, they should bring it back into school and take a comprehension quiz on Accelerated Reader. We are aiming for children to score 80% or more; when they do so, they will earn points towards their personal target. The score will help teachers to understand children’s comprehension and provide further challenge or support, as appropriate.
For Accelerated Reader to be successful, it is essential that children engage with reading at home. Thank you for your ongoing support with reading. It can sometimes be a challenge to encourage children to read, but it is essential to maximise the progress they make.
