Phonics

Phonics

In phonics we are currently focusing on phase one, in which the children develop their listening skills in preparation for reading. We will be covering:

  • Environmental sounds
  • Instrumental sounds
  • Body percussion (e.g clapping and stamping)
  • Rhythm and rhyme
  • Alliteration
  • Voice Sounds
  • Oral blending and segmenting (e.g d-o-g makes dog)

Here is a document which contains more information on the different areas of phase one phonics.

Below are some website links to games that we play during phonics sessions at Pre-School. There are also some good apps for tablets and iPads such as the Jolly Phonics app and Phonics Street.
